OnePlus: XEQ stops working in the background or has no audible effect

We received a report from a OnePlus user who experienced background interruptions, no audible response from the EQ controls, and unexpected volume changes. After reinstalling XEQ and enabling the Phone permission shown by their device’s app-permission manager, the user reported that XEQ began working normally again.

This is currently an unverified user report. XEQ does not normally require the Phone permission for its audio processing, and we have not yet reproduced or confirmed a direct technical link. However, some Android manufacturers—including OnePlus—apply device-specific changes to background execution, audio routing, and permission handling.

If you have a OnePlus device with similar symptoms, you may try the standard OnePlus background-management steps first:

  – Lock XEQ in Recent Apps.

  – Set battery usage for XEQ to Don’t optimize.

  – Disable Auto-Launch restrictions and Deep/Advanced Optimization, if available.

  – Reinstall XEQ if the issue persists.

If your device independently offers a Phone permission for XEQ, enabling it may be worth testing as an additional troubleshooting step. We are investigating this report and will update this FAQ if we can confirm the cause.
